Cinco de Mayo: Long Before It Was Corporatized - Los Angeles, CA, 1943
“Among the 5000 persons assembled for the Cinco de Mayo celebration were little Luis Romanos and his sister Amalia in costume.” - Los Angeles Times, May 6, 1943

Today I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed today. The past week I’ve been sorting through my new workspace to assemble materials, set up a cutting station, etc. All this stuff is making my mind race! I have a nice stash of materials thanks to my days at Paper Zone (paper cutter, I’m looking at you). Anyway, this little print will be my motto for the week.

I am turning my tumblr into my process blog for the portfolio review. I’ve found that if I document and share my work, the better it becomes and the more accountable I am to it. I have about a month to pull it all together. It will be a month of pushing myself harder than I have before, design-wise.
Yesterday and today I’ve been fighting a cold gifted to me by my partner, and I’ve been working mostly from bed. However, I’ve managed to gulp some emergen-C’s, take a shower, and crawl up to my work room. I took a picture of a treat I got in the mail to help me on my way: Books, Boxes, and Portfolios by Franz Zeier. I plan on making a box to put my portfolio and such into. This past weekend I took a workshop on long-stitch bookbinding, an option I am considering for my process book. I can’t help but get hands-on about the construction of this. It’s my style, and that’s what my portfolio needs to reflect.
And now I’m going to download the new Chromatics record and work on some logomarks for my branding project in 225. Every day I’m hustilin.
Illuminated manuscript making: harder than in seems.
